Food for rodents and ferrets

Unlike rodents, ferrets are obligate carnivores (like cats). They need food with at least 35% animal protein. Suitable options:

• Specialized for ferrets - Bosch Totally Ferret, 8in1 Ultimate Ferret
• Alternative - premium dry for kittens (Acana Kitten, Orijen Cat & Kitten)

Food for rodents:

• Rabbits - Versele-Laga Cuni, JR Farm. The basis of the diet is hay (70%)
• Guinea pigs - Vitakraft Pre Alpin, Padovan Premium. Vitamin C is a must
• Chinchilla - Versele-Laga Chinchilla. Low calorie high fiber
• Degu – Vitakraft Menu Degu (no sugar, degus have diabetes)
• Hamsters – Versele-Laga Hamster, Vitakraft Menu Hamster
• Rats/mice - Versele-Laga Crispy Muesli + boiled meat/egg

Cages and accessories

Cages, drinking bowls, feeders, running wheels, hammocks, houses, tunnels, carriers. Brands Ferplast, Trixie, Savic, Imac. The cell size depends on the species:

• Ferrets - large multi-story from 100×60×80 cm
• Rabbits - enclosure minimum 120×60×60 cm

Full range: sawdust (hardwood only - NOT pine and cedar), corn, pulp/paper, hay, coconut substrate.

Can you give your ferret cat food? Yes, premium kitten food is suitable (Acana Kitten, Orijen). NO economy food - not enough protein.

How long do guinea pigs live? 5-7 years on average. Long-livers - 8-9 years. Requires daily vitamin C (does not synthesize itself).

Why not pine sawdust? Pine and cedar emit phenols, which irritate mucous membranes and can cause liver disease in small rodents. Use sawdust from aspen, poplar, and beech.
